Warwick Tech Crew

Providing technical services at the University of Warwick

About Us

Warwick Tech Crew is a society for anyone interested in technical theatre or entertainment. We work with many societies and groups across the University of Warwick to help put on many shows and events throughout the year - these range from small hires involving a couple microphones, to large student productions in the Warwick Arts Centre theatre, to campus-wide outdoor festivals featuring over 50 performances.

Hires

Tech Crew offers a hire service to societies and groups at Warwick to help bring their events to life. We own a variety of technical equipment which is available as a ‘dry’ hire (we simply give the equipment to you), or with the support of some of our members to set up and run (a ‘wet’ hire).

Our inventory includes sound equipment (PA, speakers, wired and wireless microphones and mixing desks), lighting equipment (lights and lighting desks) and associated cables and consumables, and we’re able to arrange external hires if we don’t own something that you’re looking for.

Please read the hires page or contact [email protected] for more information. Once you’re ready to contact us about your event, please fill in the Hires Request Form.

Get Involved

To get involved with our events and join the society, please purchase membership from the Warwick SU website - this covers insurance, so it is essential that you purchase this before you can setup or operate our equipment or work in some of our spaces.

We operate over Discord and on a hire/show project basis - so you can get involved as much or as little as you wish. We also offer socials and training opportunities throughout the year, which are also advertised on Discord. Please read our Opportunities page for more information.

Shows

We mainly operate in Warwick Arts Centre, a professional touring venue with a 550-seat theatre and a black box studio. We work with societies such as the Drama Collective, Music Theatre Warwick and Opera Warwick to put on several productions each term, with roles including lighting design, sound design, set design and stage management.

Shows are a well-structured and often multi-term process, with Tech Crew members joining production teams from the initial planning stages before 'panel' until the end of show week. These are typically a more involved process, but can be more rewarding than hires as there is a bigger opportunity for realising your own designs in a commercial arts venue.

Previous shows include Company (Music Theatre Warwick, 2024, WAC Theatre), Carmen (Warwick Opera, 2024, WAC Theatre), A Streetcar Named Desire (Warwick University Drama Society, 2024, WAC Studio) and The Tempest (Shakesoc x Warwick University Drama Society, 2024, WAC Studio). A full list can be found on the Show Archive.
